Cowboys Draft Bust is Officially in the Dog House After Big Week 9 Mistake

The Cowboys seem to have grown tired of 2023 second-round TE Luke Schoonmaker, who has been phased out of the offense after making a critical penalty in another terrible loss.

Schoonmaker was called for holding on a 48-yard kick return, helping erase a chance to keep Dallas in a contest that'd wind up being a 27-21 loss to the Falcons. He didn't play another snap, proving he's officially in the dog house.

With only eight catches for 56 yards on the season and no path to a clear role in sight, Schoonmaker looks like a massive draft bust in only his second season.

Luke Schoonmaker had the same number of penalties as offensive snaps: 1. He was penalized for holding on KaVontae Turpin's 48 yard kick return in first half that was called back.

Now that Dak Prescott will miss multiple weeks with an injury, Dallas is transitioning to next year with limited chance at making the playoffs this season. It's been a miserable year and based on recent developments, it's only about to get worse.

The Cowboys face the Eagles next week before a Texans matchup. Should they lose both of those contests, and they'll be heavily favored to do so, it might be best to embrace tanking to ensure a high draft pick.

Things have gone from bad to worse with each passing week. Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy have proven to be an inept duo, and the failed draft picks of players like Schoonmaker only exacerbated the problem.

Schoonmaker had only 418 receiving yards during his final year at Michigan. He was always more of a blocking tight end, making his draft choice even more bizarre. It seems Jones and his crew are always one step behind the latest developments in the NFL and Schoonmaker is just the latest example.
