WAVERLY — A community cleanup will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department from 8 a.m. until noon.

Wood County Solid Waste Authority is putting on the event at the station located at 15425 Emerson Ave., said WCSWA Director Sarah Robinson. This is an additional event the WCSWA is adding to its schedule this year, following its regular Spring Clean-Up event.

This year, a wide variety of items will be collected, including paint, tires, scrap metal, appliances (no refrigerant appliances) as well as a number of items that can be redistributed to those in need.

Organizers will collect 10 off-the-rim tires per person with proper West Virginia ID

They will also be collecting paint, aerosol, liquid, gallon cans, five gallon buckets and more.

Organizers will be onsite to collect unwanted slightly used clothing and textiles along with books. They will also be collecting unopened medical supplies such as bandages/wound care, catheters and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower chairs, boots/splints and more.

“These items are then distributed to the public free of charge to those in need,” Robinson said. “It is being recycled in that way.

“We are happy to have that.

No medications will be accepted.

Volunteers will be on hand to help people unload their vehicles of materials they want to dispose of.

Robinson said an event like this helps people clean out items they don’t always know what to do with. The event helps keep unused paint out of local waterways and other materials out of the environment, she said.

“This event will help clean up the county and it lets people get rid of hard to get rid of items and get rid of a bunch of other stuff,” Robinson said.
